Getting To and From Camp
general travel guidelines
Camp Wojtyla is located near Jamestown, CO, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, about a 40 minute drive from Boulder, and 90 minutes from Denver.
driving to or from camp
All families are welcome to drive their campers to and from Camp on the first and last days!
If you plan to fly into Denver first, Denver International Airport (DIA) has many nearby rental car companies, and we’ve included lodging suggestions in our Parent Handbook for your convenience.
Driving up to Camp is a great way to get a sneak peek at what your child will experience during the week. Families who drive up on the final day are also invited to attend our closing ceremony—a wonderful opportunity to share in the Camp Wojtyla experience.
Campers should arrive by 4:00 PM Mountain Time on the first day of camp and will depart no later than 1:00 PM on the last day.
Detailed travel information, including camper-specific check-in and check-out times, Camp location, driving directions, and full airport shuttle instructions, will be provided during the registration process.
air travel
Many of our campers fly in alone (or with friends or family) from other states or countries! To get them safely to Camp Wojtyla, we offer an airport shuttle service to and from Denver International Airport (DIA) for a nominal fee.
SHUTTLE SERVICE
Arrivals: Before 12:30 PM Mountain Time on the first day of camp
Departures: After 4:00 PM Mountain Time on the last day of camp
Due to a tight shuttle schedule, we are unable to accommodate campers arriving or departing outside of the above timeframes, nor pick-ups or drop-offs campers at locations other than DIA.
FLYING UNACCOMPANIED
Whether your child can fly without an accompanying adult depends on your airline’s policy. Some campers qualify to fly unaccompanied (without an airline escort), while others are required by the airline to fly as Unaccompanied Minors (UAMs).
Campers Old Enough to Fly Alone—
Many campers between the ages of 12-17 meet airline age requirements to fly alone and without assistance. They often fly in by themselves or with another camper they know. We provide these campers with clear instructions for navigating DIA and checking in with our staff. Age requirements vary by airline, so please check directly with your airline. This online article from “UponArriving” is also a helpful resource.
Unaccompanied Minors—
Some campers will fall under the airline’s definition of an Unaccompanied Minor (UAM) and won’t be able to fly alone. Unless traveling with an older child or adult, these children must be monitored and escorted by airline staff, typically for an additional fee.
Camp Wojtyla’s UAM Service—
⚠️ Limited number of spots, first-come, first-served.
For an additional fee, Camp Wojtyla offers a UAM service for a limited number of campers. This service begins after the child’s flight lands in Denver and includes escort and supervision from the airline gate to Camp’s airport shuttle.
To qualify:
Your child must meet the airline’s definition of a UAM—a child under a certain age traveling alone, who, for an additional fee, will receive extra supervision by airline staff.
Campers flying as Unaccompanied Minors by parent choice, rather than airline requirement, cannot be accommodated.
Families must email registrar@camp-w.com to confirm availability before purchasing plane tickets.
If we cannot accommodate a camper with our UAM shuttle due to limits, or your child does not qualify for the service, but the family wants an escort, the child may be accompanied to the airport by a trusted family member or friend and dropped off at our designated meeting place.
Booking the Airport Shuttle—
If your child will use our shuttle, you can indicate this during online camper registration. A shuttle reservation link will be emailed to you at that time.
