Backpacking Instructor

Lead high school campers on backcountry trips in the Rocky Mountain wilderness. Hone your outdoor leadership skills while increasing your Catholic faith.

  • Instructors will be on a small team who will take groups of inexperienced campers on two 6-day backpacking trips in the Rocky Mountains in July. They will also serve at Camp Wojtyla’s Outpost program during June, bringing their expertise in wilderness safety and hard skills to this more rustic program.

Both the Outpost and Backpacking programs embrace wilderness living, where campers are farther removed from the resources of our basecamp property. The safety of staff and campers is the most important element of these programs and is the responsibility of each instructor. WHAT COUNSELORS ARE SAYING:

“This summer I had the realization on the top of a mountain that I am so small but also so significant. In the grand scheme of things we’re small, but at the same time we can change the hearts of so many when following God’s will for us. I was also able to experience the purest form of relationship between men and women in everyday life. This was by far the aspect I found most beautiful. I learned how to fully give of myself and love others at every moment, and as a result, I felt so full of life and fulfilled every day. Every moment becomes your favorite moment and it constantly assures you how happy life with Christ can make you.

-Counselor Alum

“Camp Wojtyla absolutely changed my faith and changed my life. On staff this summer, I was able to pursue sainthood with my now lifelong pals, be a kid again, and draw young girls and boys closer to their true identities as daughter or son of the King. The Lord redefined for my heart what it means to be second and crafted a summer that exuded the beauty of servitude. This job isn’t even a job. It’s a taste of Heaven. APPLY!!!”

-Counselor Alum

“One of the graces I received this summer was the beauty of dying to self. And what it truly means to give everything, to make yourself a gift to the mission, and to allow the Lord to work through you. It is not easy to surrender everything to him, like control and time, but that is such a beautiful way that He blessed me this summer. Among many other graces was the community. The community is just life changing to get to live with 40 college students who are just on fire for Christ and the mission of Camp.”
