Summer Staff testimonies

When I flew across the country from Alabama to Colorado in 2010 for my first summer at Camp Wojtyla, I knew God had a life-changing summer in store for me, but I never guessed the extent to which my life would be transformed. I was challenged through new experiences to discover and work towards becoming the woman God created me to be. Through leading my small groups—spiritually in prayer and group discussions, and physically up mountains and rock faces—I grew in confidence of the gifts God gave me.

God worked in my life in even bigger ways during Camp Wojtyla 2011. After a summer of beautiful challenges, full of prayer, community, and creation, I am left with a profound understanding of the incredible love that God has for me, His daughter. I have so much assurance in the plan He has for my life! God revealed so much of Himself to me through interacting in the outdoors, free from all distractions, with my fellow counselors and the campers—especially my little sister who joined us as a camper during High School girls’ week! Seeing our relationship grow because of the shared experience of Christ in meadows, alpine hikes, and tipis amazes me and brings me so much joy. Being back at school, I am constantly aware of the need to experience God through the outdoors, and I am motivated to introduce everyone to the fullness of life that can be found in Christ!

Serving the Lord for eight weeks in Colorado went above and beyond my wildest expectations.  When I first arrived as a camper in 2010, I came looking for an adventure, never knowing this it would be much more than scrambling over boulders, traveling to distant lakes or summiting mountains, but would be an adventure of faith.  So one year later I returned with zeal.  It proved to be the most arduous summer of my life where I was challenged to grow as a friend, a leader, and a man of God.  And to have the opportunity to evangelize to these incredible young men; spend a summer exploring God’s creation; and to show that the Catholic Church is “alive and young!” was exhilarating.  I cannot imagine a better way to spend my summer than fulfilling Christ’s Great Commission.  After all, serving God isn’t a job it’s an adventure!
